The ABC’s of Sexual Assault

On Thursday, April 14, 2016, the Criminal Justice and Criminology program hosted its first lecture, The ABC’s of Sexual Assault.  Students from Criminal Justice and Criminology, Social Work, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, and Nursing attended this interactive lecture, which challenged students, staff, and faculty alike to revisit what they think they know about sexual assault.  The lecture was recorded and is available on YouTube.

Attorney/Forensic Interviewer Laurie Gray and Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Michelle Ditton addressed the common medical myths and misconceptions that undermine the investigation and adjudication of sexual assault cases and the common social myths and biases behind what has come to be known as “rape culture.” In this presentation, “A” was for Anatomy, “B” was for Bunk and “C” was for Consent.  The content of their lecture can be found in their book, The ABC’s of Sexual Assault, which is available at the USF Campus Shoppe/Bookstore.
